The Guardian reports BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has been fired from the mobile company. He will leave with a $22 million payout.

The New York Times suspects the firing occurred due to the the collapse of a takeover by Fairfax Financial Holdings, the company's largest shareholder.

Blackberry has not found an interested buyer after trying to discuss deals with Google, Cisco, and Facebook. It will now turn to a $1 billion fundraising campaign to assist with efforts to save the company.

During the last quarterly, Blackberry had to release a quarter of its staff to stay financially afloat. In four years, Blackberry went from maintaining 50% market share to a mere 3%.
