The 2013 American Music Awards were held at the NOKIA Theater in downtown Los Angeles Sunday evening, and broadcast live to a TV audience of millions.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were nominated for the most awards of the night.
As always with the AMAs, winners are determined by fan voting.
Rihanna was awarded the first ever "Icon" award, which was presented to her by her mother. Before accepting the award, Rihanna performed a stirring "Diamonds in the Sky". Nelly made an unexpected appearance, singing his throw-back favorite "Ride Wit Me".
