After 14 years and a failed television show, a follow-up film to the hit romantic comedy “10 Things I Hate About You,” is officially in the works.

Gil Junger’s 1999 film, starring Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, followed new kid Cameron (Gordon-Levitt) as he chased after queen bee Bianca Stratford, who wasn't allowed to date anyone until her uptight sister Kat (Stiles) did, per their father’s rules.

The film was loosely based on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew."

The follow-up indie comedy “10 Things I Hate About Life,” also written and directed by Junger, will star Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell.

According to Variety, they will play two teens who meet, just as they are both about to commit suicide, and fall in love when “their similar emotional state forms a bond that draws them both into happiness and takes them on a rollercoaster ride.”

It remains to be seen if the film will be Shakespeare-based like its predecessor.

The film began production back in 2012, but the crew will reconvene after a year-long break this December. The film is set to wrap in April.

Junger told Variety that the film is not quite a sequel to the original film, but “rather a story that advances the situations.”

Hopefully the new film sees more success than previous attempts to follow-up the original.

ABC Family tried (and failed) to create a spin-off television series by the same name in 2009. The show starred Lindsey Shaw and Meaghan Martin as the Stratford sisters and Ethan Peck as the iconic (and frankly, not to be duplicated) Patrick Verona, played by Ledger in the original film. ABC Family cancelled the show after one season as a result of low ratings.

But don’t let the ill-fated television series change your view of Junger’s work. For those who haven’t beheld the 90s classic that is “10 Things I Hate About You,” move it to the top of your to-do list.
