The success of the two titles has single-handedly resuscitated the economic forecast for Nintendo's ailing handheld division. Pokémon X and Y also marks a dramatic shift in visual style and game play mechanics for the long-standing franchise. It also marks the first time the handheld series has been rendered in 3D.
