Woman Killed At Capitol Had Mental Illness, Evidence Suggests

The woman shot and killed by police at the U.S. capitol Thursday had medications in her apartment to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders, CNN reports.

Thirty-four-year-old Miriam Carey was unarmed when she rammed a barricade near the White House with her vehicle, crashed into a police cruiser and sped down Pennsylvania Avenue, causing a police chase that locked down Congress.

Carey's one-year-old daughter, seated in the car with her, came away from then incident unharmed. Two officers were injured during the chase.

According to CNN, Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December and expressed concern for their child's safety, saying the woman was "delusional" and believed herself to be under electronic surveillance.
