Who Are Prince George's Godparents?
A few hours before the christening, Prince William and Kate Middleton (aka the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) released the names of their son's godparents.
Ranging from longtime friends of the royal family to fellow St. Andrews University alums, the baby prince is definitely going to be doted upon (read: there will be many awesome gifts in his future) with seven godparents.
That number might seem like a lot, but it's only one more than his father had!
So who was lucky enough to make the list? Find out below!
Earl Hugh Grosvenor
The earl's mother, Duchess Natalia Grosvenor, also played the role of godparent to George's father, Prince William.
Julia Samuel
A close friend of the late Princess Diana, Julia Samuel is also the founder of Child Bereavement U.K., a charity that Prince William avidly supports.
She also works as a maternity and pediatric counselor at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, where Prince George was born.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton worked as a private secretary for William and Kate as well as for Prince Harry, William's younger brother. Very close to the royal family, Lowther-Pinkerton has also worked for Queen Elizabeth II as an equerry.
He's also a military veteran, having served with the Irish Guards, the Special Air Service (SAS), and as a special forces liaison officer with the U.S. military during the First Gulf War.
Zara Tindall
Like her mother, Zara is a well-known British equestrian. Anne competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, becoming the first member of the royal family to compete in the Olympic Games. While the Princess didn't win any medals then, her daughter won a silver medal at last year's Summer Olympics in London.
Zara is also expecting her first child with husband (and English rugby player) Mike Tindall.
Emilia Jardine-Paterson
Emilia Jardine-Paterson is a longtime friend of both William and Kate, having attended Marlborough College with Kate and later St. Andrews University, where she met the Duke of Cambridge.
Oliver Baker
A fellow St. Andrews alum, Oliver Baker is another close friend of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He was one of two friends to share a house with the couple in their last two years of university.
William van Cutsem
One of the Duke's oldest friends, William van Cutsem is the youngest son of the late Hugh van Cutsem, who was close to the Duke's father, Prince Charles. The Sandringham estate, where the van Cutsems once lived, was given to William and Kate as a royal country home.
