Two Teens Arrested In Connection With Girl's Suicide
The 14-year-old drew attention to her actions when she posted the following status on Facebook following Sedwick's suicide:
"Yes IK I bullied REBECCA nd she killed her self but IDGAF."
According to ABC News, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd brought the two girls into custody because he saw a lack of remorse. He was astonished at the fact that following these allegations, the parents of the 14-year-old allowed her to continue her social media use. "I'm aggravated that the parents aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing," he said in a CNN report.
While bullying is currently not against the law, the intense harassment of Sedwick online and at school brought forward charges of stalking. No court date is set for either girl yet. According to Judd, the girls will most likely not see any time in juvenile detention because they have no previous criminal records.
Sedwick would have turned 13 this weekend and her mother considers the arrest of these two girls the best birthday present her daughter could have received. "Because justice is finally being service," Tricia Norman told CNN. "That's all she ever wanted was somebody to listen and do something about it."
