People who live in diverse California may have thought they’ve seen it all, but they’ve seen nothing like this.

The Magic Restroom Café located in City of Industry, Calif. has now made eating out of a toilet bowl the norm, at least in their restaurant.

Though bathroom themed restaurants have become quite popular in Asian countries, The Magic Restroom Café is the first toilet-themed restaurant in all of America.

The restaurant is filled with toilet-themed décor; for example instead of sitting on chairs, customers sit on toilet stools. In addition, the Taiwanese food offered at the restaurant is served in miniature toilet bowls.

The owner, YoYo Li, is a first-time restaurant owner from China. When first deciding what type of restaurant to open, she was torn between opening a boba shop or a toilet-themed restaurant. She decided to open the Magic Restroom Café mainly because of the success restroom cafes have in Asia.

The Magic Restroom Café averages at two and a half stars on Yelp, with many people complaining about slow service and cold food.

One Yelp reviewer rated this restaurant with one star and said, “I know it’s their soft opening but their food was just awful. I came without high expectations since my friends have said their experience has been horrible and that they just opened for two weeks.”

Another Yelp reviewer rated this restaurant with five stars and said, “Despite the obvious gimmick … this place has legit food. We ordered the Magic Curry with rice and really enjoyed the magic flavor. The service was great! They don’t just dump the food on your table and leave, they paid attention to [us] throughout the duration of our time there.”

The Magic Restroom Cafe soft opened on Oct. 12, and had their grand opening on Oct. 18. In addition, according to their Facebook page, the Magic Restroom Café promises that more “delicious food and decorations” are on their way.
