San Fernando Valley Resident Wants Better Transportation
Neighborhood: North Hollywood
Job: Entertainment Service Industry
Age: 31
What are the top issues facing Los Angeles, and why?
I think transportation is the biggest problem around here. The roads are lousy and there are too many people trying to block new Metro stations. I don't have a car anymore, so I find it pretty difficult to get around large sections of Los Angeles. I don't think I'm alone.
What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?
Aggresively expand Metro and stop proposing, start doing. Every week I hear about some proposal to build something here or there, but then some groups throwing hissy fits and people start dragging their heels.
Did you vote in the May election? Who did you support?
I did not vote. I am fairly disenchanted with the whole political process at this point. Villaraigosa really burnt me out, it's like all he cared about was being the center of attention. So then these two new guys go head-to-head, and I couldn't really tell them apart other than one was a woman and the other one is a man.
What could Mayor Garcetti do to make you more politically active?
I would totally support a mayor who showed visible signs of doing his job as a civil servant, not a glorified playboy. Make decisive decisions on transportation, even if it upsets people. Help people around here stretch a dollar farther and travel further. But he really needs to start by restoring the credibility of the mayor's office.
