Name: Don Jones

Neighborhood: South L.A.

Job: Retired

Age: 54

What are the top issues facing Los Angeles, and why?

There are no jobs and when there are no jobs it affects the economy. I think some of the major issues in LA are the lack of jobs and the large homeless population that is suffering from mental illness.

What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?

I think until he comes up with a program or place to help treat people with mental illness, L.A. will continue to have a large homeless issue. I know it’s not a simple issue to tackle but I think the mayor should consider ways to help the unemployed and homeless.

Did you vote in the May election? Who did you support?

I did not get a chance to.

How do you feel about how L.A.’s law enforcement responds to incidents?

I think the LAPD Chief of Police is trying to make things better, but like in every society you are going to have some people that abuse their power.

Personally, I feel that the psychological pre-employment screenings for some of the local law enforcements are not as thorough as they should be and as a result there are bad apples that are hired.

I think Garcetti should work to hire individuals that are looking out for the people not for themselves.
