It doesn’t always take much for something small to become something big that eventually becomes a standoff, as many learned Friday evening when an immigration officer was shot and three local police officers wounded over a wanted parolee.

According to Authorities, the wanted suspect, 32-year-old Sammy Duran, remained at large through the evening, but was contained in a Roseville neighborhood until deciding to surrender himself

Roseville police authorities reported that Duran had barricaded himself in his house while armed with “an assault-type rifle.” The rifle hit two police officers with gunshots and inflicted shrapnel wounds on a third. The immigration officer was shot directly and hit in the leg.

From the Sacramento Bee:

“None of the injuries to officers appear to be life-threatening, authorities said. Roseville city officials said Duran is a wanted parolee who has lived in Roseville for some time and with whom police have had previous contact.

"He didn't want to go to jail. He is a wanted parolee," said Roseville police Lt. Cal Walstad when asked about motivation. He said the suspect was armed with an assault-type weapon.”

Duran is currently being held in custody after nearly nine hours of a standoff between him and the armed officers. He left his house on his own, unarmed to accept the detention. All parties were taken to the hospital afterwards to have their wounds treated.
