The Olympic flame is an old tradition symbolizing “the positive values that Man has always associated with fire. The purity of the flame is guaranteed by the way it is lit using the sun’s rays.”

The torch is first lit in Greece and then passed on in a relay to the location of the Olympic games. Throughout the entire relay the torch is supposed to stay lit, but like Napoleon in 1812 no one took into account the windy and wet Russian winter.

A former Russian Olympic swimmer was jogging through Moscow with the torch when the flam went out. Not sure what to do he kept jogging while motioning with his hand if anyone had a light. Luckily, someone did. The flame was later blown out again by the incessant Russian winter.
