Halloween is known as the time of year when you get to know a little bit more than you would have cared to about your friends' bodies. Typical festive costumes, leaving little room for imagination, are all over stores in October. Here, Neon Tommy shows you how to dress for Halloween while keeping your dignity intact.

Oz the Great and Powerful: Theodora – Inspired by Mila Kunis’ character in the prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Theodora is one of the newest Halloween trends. If you’re not in the mood to buy the costume, shop from your own closet. Pick out a fluffy or ruffled white button down top, or other styled shirt with black leather pants and boots with a red blazer and matching Fedora.

The Great Gatsby: Flapper- Although Flappers were quite the controversial buzz in the 20's, in 2013 they are sexy and sophisiticated. Girls can visit most Halloween retail stores to bring back this Gatsby-inspired look.

Alice in Wonderland: Mad Hatter - Made famous by Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter is a wacky, fun costume to pull off. Though the movie made its debut in 2010, the costume is always fun with its vibrant colors. Who wouldn’t want to pull of a Disney/Tim Burton character? Try any major costume retailer, brick-and-mortar or online, for the accessories needed (like a curly red wig and green contacts).

Likewise, Alice is a character that is simple and elegant to bring back. Find a blue dress and add your own flair with accessories. Consider wearing white or no leggings and black shoes (flats or heels) and a black hair band. Stores like PartyCity are the perfect place to go for needed accessories, including Alice’s blond wig.

Game of Thrones: Daenerys Targaryen - Like dressing for Alice, this costume can be pulled off with creativity instead of spending money at a costume store. The "Game of Thrones" character is often seen wearing long blue or light gray dresses. Match it up with gold accessories, such as a headpiece, necklace or gold accents throughout the dress.

Minnie/Mickey Mouse - For a Minnie Mouse costume, if you don’t have a red shirt or dress with white polka dots, a Halloween or costume store might be the best place to get equipped. As for Mickey costumes, black jeans with a white shirt and shoes with Mickey ears might be the simple approach, but if you are in the mood to go all out, check out any major online retailer.

Tinkerbell/Peter Pan - Both Disney characters are for toddlers and adults. Reliving your childhood in the shoes of The-Boy-Who-Never-Grew-Up and his little fairy works every Halloween.

Film Figure: Audrey Hepburn - One of the most classy, famous actresses of the 30's and 40's, Audrey Hepburn is the perfect style maven to copy. Hepburn’s character in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a simple costume to put together. A long, black, fitted dress, matching heels, and a hair up-do are easy to play around with. Don’t forget a cat!
