In an attempt to end the shutdown that has lasted for nine days, President Obama has set up meetings with Republican and Democratic lawmakers. He will meet with Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday afternoon, according The White House, and the Republicans on Thursday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, these meetings come at a time when Congress remains divided over how to put an end to the debate over government funding and raising a cap on borrowing. For the government to continue paying all of its bills, the U.S. Treasury explained that a resolution must be reached to end this dilemma.

The Washington Post reported that no progress was reached on how to reopen the government and pay the bills on Tuesday when Obama and Boehner publicly clashed.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, called for Congress to increase the borrowing limit. He said, "Default would put our economy in grave danger…Republicans and Democrats may have our differences, but neither side should hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage."
