Five people have been injured in an accident that occurred on a ride Thursday at the North Carolina State Fair, USA Today reports.

A preliminary investigation indicates that passengers were probably injured when the "Vortex" ride started up again as they were getting off the ride, a fair spokesman said.

The injured passengers range in age from 14 to 39; two of their injuries were described as "serious," and the other three, "not as serious."
