A brand new installment of "Paranormal Activity" is in the works, and it appears to be the scariest one yet.

Directer Christopher Landon switches up the storyline this time around. Landon has written the past three "Paranormal Activity" flicks. For the first time, he introduces a completely new cast that has no familial ties.

The newest installment is a spin-off titled "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones," which comes to theaters in January 2014.

Unlike the other four movies in the series, "The Marked Ones" follows a group of Los Angeles teens who witness the death of a neighbor and decide to investigate the scene of the crime on their own. Afterwards, one of the teens named Jesse (Andrew Jacobs), experiences signs of being possessed by a demonic being and craziness ensues.

Despite the different features of this film, it still incorporates past stories from "Paranormal Activity 1" through "Paranormal Activity 4." In the trailer, the main characters even discover pictures of past victims Katie and Kristi, who were central characters in the first four movies, in addition to meeting with Kristi's step daughter.

The motion picture also follows the found-footage trend seen in the other movies in the series.

While the rest of the films were definitely beginning to drag on, this fresh new take on the story is just what is needed to re-spark interest in the franchise. In the past, we simply saw a different member of the family get possessed with each new movie.

The other films were also rather slow paced with their stagnant scenery and redundant characters. Not only are the first four movies solely filmed in a general house setting- there were at least 10 scenes of just pots in a kitchen- but the first four films have a cast list of about five actors. Finally Katie Featherston will get a break.

Luckily, it seems Landon has learned his lesson in "The Marked Ones." The trailer promises wild parties, demons, and a group of unsuspecting teens. What more could one ask for in a good horror film?
