What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?
I want Garcetti to focus on poverty and rehabilitation for those living in poverty. I want the city to provide more resources to help people in poverty, whether it be through drug rehab centers or mental health services or whatever it takes. If we eliminate poverty now, it won’t pass down to future generations. Future generations should not see living in poverty as a lifestyle option. These should be paid for through tax payer dollars since these people obviously can’t afford these services.
Did you vote in the May election? Who did you support?
I voted for Obama [in the presidental election] but I didn’t wote for Garcetti because I didn’t know enough about him and I’m deciding how I feel about him still. Since Garcetti is new in office, he’ll experience the moral hazard problem when he runs again in the next term. If he performs well in his first term, he’ll get reelected. I’m still waiting to see how he addresses economic issues before I decide.
How do you feel about what has been done with your taxes thus far?
Our taxes go towards so much that is not necessary, and our money needs to be more directed towards issues like poverty. If I see less homeless people, I’ll that’s a direct result of where my money is going. This is better than using my money to fix a curb on a sidewalk.
What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?
He needs to provide services for those who can’t get them on their own. I can work to get ahead but some people can’t do that. He needs to provide mental health services, rehab facilities and quality education to end homelessness and poverty.
