Westsider Wants Affordable Housing
Neighborhood: Mid City West (Los Angeles)
Job: Cosmetologist
Age: 30’s
What are the top issues facing Los Angeles, and why?
Economic housing reform. Some rents in Downtown Los Angeles are very affordable, but as you move to the Westside it’s totally, extremely unaffordable. This is why those buildings were even permitted to be built. I feel taken advantage of because I voted for that bill. I’m also nervous about the city’s deficit. Is Garcetti going to be all talk and just sublimate to the city’s upper class? I’m a little worried.
What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?
On the job front (and the government shutdown), if we don’t come to work we get fired. Civil service is a big deal. We elected those officials into office to not be afraid to make hard decisions even if it meant being unpopular with a certain group of people.
All of us work hard; we are a densely educated country. We are now pursuing college more than ever but we finish and have no jobs. As far as housing, if he really wants to help Los Angeles, give us a place to live.
Did you vote in the May election? Who did you support?
Yes. Wendy Greuel just because she’s already been a part of the City Council.
