Attorney Wants Improved Education Programs In LA
Brian, 26, an attorney in Downtown shares his concerns for education in the L.A. community.
Did you vote in the May election? Who did you support?
I voted in the original election but not the runoff election. I voted for Eric Garcetti. I don't know if I supported him very much other than that.
What are the top issues facing Los Angeles, and why?
There's so many. Probably education. I couldn't tell you if L.A. schools are doing worse than schools elsewhere in the state, but the state seems to be doing poorly. It seems like L.A. schools could probably do better as well.
What could Mayor Garcetti do to address your top priorities?
I don't know, it's difficult. You could always say spend more money, but you have to spend it wisely. I don't know how much control he has over LAUSD.
Can you give an example of how LAUSD is practicing poor spending methods?
I don't know how LAUSD's recent decision to buy hundreds of iPads for students has really helped them learn at all. I'm a professional, and I don't have an iPad so I think they can make it without one too.
