While Obamacare may be the word on most people’s lips right now, immigration reform is ready for its moment in the sun too.

Thousands of protestors are taking to the streets of Hollywood and 163 other cities across United States on Saturday, Oct. 5 to draw attention to the pressing need for immigration reform.

March of the Stars,” the Los Angles iteration of the event, will be part of the larger movement for a “National Day of Dignity and Respect,”an advocacy event to ask Congress for a pathway to citizenship. The event will conclude with a rally and free concert on Tuesday on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

At 10 a.m., thousands of people gathered at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue to begin the march.

Earlier this week, the House Democrats had proposed a bill that would offer a path to citizenship for those who entered the country illegally and expand visa programs, a bill much like the one passed by the Senate in June.

Yet, as House Republicans view creating a pathway to citizenship as the equivalent of granting amnesty, there are still many arguments to be had before real changes in immigration are made.
