David Bowie wrote, edited and presented a music video for his song “Love Is Lost.”

After he needed footage to go with musician and DJ James Murphy's remix of the song, Bowie decided to pick up a camera and produce his own music video.

The buzz of his production is not just about how appropriate the video is for Halloween, but about how it all cost $12.99—to upload it on a flashdrive.

The video is perfect for Halloween. It starts off with him washing his hands, then shows him and a wooden puppet of himself clapping their hands. It looks like blood is dripping down the hand. Then the rocker begins singing.

Movie-goers have seen scary films with puppets, dolls and toys in many suspenseful scenes. Bowie’s music video too has many puppets, one of which is a model of him. The theme is dark, and definitely something different to see from David Bowie despite his eccentric style.

The song is one of five studio tracks coming out on Bowie’s Nov. 5 three-disk collection called “The Next Day Extra.” The package features studio remixes, unheard songs and a DVD with music videos.

The music video was released Wednesday at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize awards, making it available for the world to see.

Without further adieu…
