Congressmen Arrested At Immigration Rally In Washington

The "Camino Americano: March for Dignity and Respect" was held in Washington D.C. Tuesday despite the National Mall being closed due to the government shutdown. People from all across Washington showed up to support the rally including popular Latino artist and members of Congress.

According to Capitol Police approximately 15,000 people participated in the rally and once a group of demonstrators broke a part from the and blocked first street arrest were made.  200 demonstrators who refused to move were arrested at 4:00PM and charged with crowding, obstructing and incommoding.

Included in the arrest were multiple Democratic congressmen including civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.). Other Congressmen arrested were: were Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), Rep. Raul Grivjalva (D-Ariz.), Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.), Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.).

In total eight congressmen were arrested and there is no further information on their processing, release or final charges.
