Now that we’ve met the Mother, the search is on for the Father.

Rumors of a “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off series have been circulating for several months, but it is now confirmed that CBS is in talks with 20th Century Fox TV for a series that would send a female Ted Mosby on the quest for her husband.

Dubbed “How I Met Your Father” by Deadline, the show would be co-written and produced by "HIMYM" executive producers/creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with “Up All Night,” executive producer/creator Emily Spivey.

Similar to the original series, the show would feature an eclectic group of friends living in New York. The iconic Maclaren’s Pub is also being considered for the new characters’ hangout spot as a link between the two shows.

None of the characters from "HIMYM" will be on the spin-off, but characters from the new series may be introduced during the finale of "HIMYM" on May 13.

With “HIMYM’s” departure looming, their spin-off will certainly be a welcomed addition to the CBS lineup. "HIMYM" is the second highest rated show on CBS, behind “The Big Bang Theory,” and is carrying CBS’s Monday nights in the ratings.

And CBS is not the only network taking the spin-off approach. CW has found success this fall with its new show, “The Originals,” a spin-off from “The Vampire Diaries.” ABC is also working on a spin-off to their hit comedy “Modern Family.”

Since the spin-off series is still awhile off, here's the promo for next week's episode of "HIMYM."
