As of Monday morning, a brush fire at the military base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County has burned at least 2,500 acres.

Public affairs officer and base spokesman Lt. Ryan Finnegan spoke to Neon Tommy and said the fire began on Saturday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. and has damaged four buildings and two cars. 339 firefighters have been facing the flames, with the help of the U.S. Forest Service and nearby agencies.

The flames inched near the military families living on the base. On Saturday night, 330 people were evacuated near Lake O’Neil. However, they were allowed back into their homes last night. No homes have been lost, however there has been power and water damage.

The base’s hospital was forced to evacuate 30 patients due to a power outage, but they were able to return last night.

Native to Southern California, the hot, dry Santa Ana winds are not helping the flames, with gusts reaching 65 mph Saturday. The fire was 41 percent contained as of early this afternoon.

Finnegan said there were no reported injuries.

Officials said they hope to have the fire out by Tuesday.

No cause of the blaze has been detected.
