UPDATE (12:05 PM PT): CNN's Dana Bash reports that the lockdown has been lifted at the U.S. Capitol Building. CBS reports that the incident occurred when a woman attempted to ram the gate to the White House with her car, resulting in a car chase to Capitol Hill, where the shots were fired. A child was also inside the car and has been removed from the scene. The suspect is now in custody.

Reports from Washington D.C. say that gunshots have been fired near Capitol Hill. CNN reports that at least one person has been injured and that the gunshots were near the Hart Senate Office Building, which is located a block away from the Supreme Court and two blocks northwest of the Capitol Building. Employees have been ordered to take shelter in their offices and to stay away from external windows and doors, and law enforcement officials are treating the situation as an "active shooter" case.
