It is beginning to feel like fall again, and we can finally pull out those cozy sweaters and beanies. However, fall also means that your summer skincare regimens no longer hold up. The recent chill in air can seriously wreak havoc on your skin. During these months, your skin needs a little extra TLC to keep it looking and feeling its best. Dry, cracked and peeling skin are common in the fall, but there are ways to prevent it. Read on to discover how.

The cold weather days leave your skin thirsty for lots of moisture. A good facial and body cream is necessary to combat any rough, flaky skin. For the body, pick a thick, luxurious moisturizer like Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream or L’Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream. These are perfect for parched, sensitive skin. Slather them on generously, all over your body. The best time to do this is right after stepping out of the shower, when the lotion locks in moisture from your damp skin. Find some more excellent choices here

Your hands are overworked during the day, so don’t forget to treat them a little, too. Try L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream or Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra Enriched Hand Crème to relieve any dryness. Put these on before bedtime and then throw on some mittens. You’ll wake up to silky, smooth hands in the morning!

For the face, you need a moisturizer that will protect your delicate features from the bitter weather and keep it looking smooth and supple. Everyone’s skin is different – dry, oily, combination and sensitive – so it is imperative that you choose one that will complement your individual skin type.

Some great options for dehydrated skin are Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator and Philosophy Hope In A Jar. These are meant to deeply hydrate without leaving a greasy appearance. Here are some more suggestions.

It is also recommended that you use a serum before you apply your daily facial moisturizer. The serum will give your skin an additional boost to defend itself against the elements. Serums penetrate faster and are more effective at fighting specific skin issues. Some terrific choices are Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum, L’Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum Concentrate and Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum

Exfoliation is imperative during these fall months. A little flakiness is bound to creep up, but exfoliating will remove any dead skin and keep your skin feeling bright and refreshed.

Invest in a facial brush, like the Clarisonic Mia 2. It will make your life so much easier. Add this to your regimen and your skin will feel softer and smoother after the first use.

If you are wary about splurging on the Clarisonic, Olay has two similar alternatives: the Va-Va-Vivid Powered Contour Cleansing System and the Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System. You can pair these brushes with a facial cleanser of your choice.

If you are really ambitious, you can follow that power brushing with a scrub. Scrubs are a great way to reveal healthier skin. Lush Ocean Salt and St. Ive’s Invigorating Apricot Scrub dig deep into pores to remove all that unpleasant dirt and grime. Trish McAvoy’s Blackberry and Vanilla Musk Body Polish Sugar Scrub and Bath and Body Works’ Warm Vanilla Sugar Scrub are fantastic to use all over the body and smell amazing.

After you start, it may be difficult to stop, but limit yourself to using these scrubs only once or twice per week. Overuse can aggravate already rough and irritated skin.

Fall is notorious for chapped and wind burnt lips, so don't forget about your mouth. Overcome this irritating obstacle by using a lip scrub. Sara Happ’s The Lip Scrub in Brown Sugar and Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub restore that perfectly kissable pout instantly. Afterward, smear on your favorite lip balm.

In addition to velvety skin, these tips will help you achieve the ideal palette for flawless makeup application. No one wants to put foundation over cracked, dehydrated skin. Great skincare in the fall is crucial. Trust that your skin will thank you over and over again as it soaks up all this love.
