Apple has already sold over nine million new iPhone devices since shipping both the iPhone 5S and 5C to retailers just a few weeks ago, but the tech giant may now be gearing up to reveal all-new iPad tablets right before the holidays.

Speculation reached a fever pitch when the Cupertino-based company sent out invitations for an October 22nd event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. The colorful invite, stating "We still have a lot to cover," is patterned after similar press invitations the company has sent out in years past.

Analysts have been speculating for months that Apple would release an updated iPad Mini with a Retina screen, along with a re-designed, fifth-generation 9.7" iPad. Third-party accessories for the unannounced devices have already leaked to the Internet.

The press invitation comes just hours after Apple ended its yearlong search to find a replacement for its retail and online sales operations, tapping Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts to fill the role vacated by John Browett.

The posturing indicates Apple is busy trying to cement its retail operations before holiday shopping hits critical mass.

Apple is now in the midst of a busy new product cycle, with CEO Tim Cook hinting earlier this year that new Mac Pro, iPad and MacBook models would hit retail shelves by fall. It is likely that Apple will also utilize the press event to unveil its new OSX “Mavericks” operating system for its desktop and notebook product lines.

The end result would match projected road maps many set out for Apple earlier this year, with expectations that new iPad models would drive end-of-year revenue.

Whatever Tim Cook announces, set your iCal for October 22nd.
