A musician’s life isn’t always glamorous. The recording process is draining and brutal on bands, no matter how famous they are. Not to mention, they go on world tours, press junkets, help Africa, etc. Therefore, it is easy to see why some artists decide to go on a “hiatus” of sorts.

Here are 7 musicians that have taken a longer break than fans had expected:

Dr. Dre

Last album: 2001

Okay, we’ll give this guy a break since he is a major producer, founder of the snazziest pair of headphones, and a major USC donor. In 2012, the rapper was featured at Coachella even though he hadn’t released an album in eleven years. Dre hasn’t announced an album in the works so as of now, fans can only hope for a next episode years from now.

Beck

Last album: 2008

Que Onda Guero?” For many, the release of a new Beck album has seemed like a lost cause. Not to fear-- fans must have given him a little too much modern guilt because the singer plans on releasing a new album next year.

Rolling Stones

Last album: 2005

The iconic band may be above the age of retirement, but they are still going strong with a 50th anniversary tour this past summer. However, don’t expect a new album anytime soon. Audiences can’t get no satisfaction because for now, fans will have to stick to watching concerts on YouTube and buying an obscene amount of graphic tees to supplement a new album. After all, you can’t always get what you want.

Garth Brooks

Last album: 2001

One of the best-selling artists of all time is hardly known by the new generation. Possibly because he has not released a new album in twelve years. Not to fear, the country star will be more than a memory soon because he plans on releasing an album next year.

Shania Twain

Last album: 2002

Before Carrie and Taylor, there was Shania. The country singer brought sass and energy to a genre was never very popular in the mainstream. Audiences loved her. It has been over a decade since releasing her last album. That don’t impress us much. She sang about relationships crazier than Taylor and her boy band lovers could even imagine. Can Shania prove she's still the one

U2

Last album: 2009

The sweetest thing happened today: U2 released their newest single in years. It gets better-- there seems to be a line on the horizon for it was reported that the Irish band was finishing a new album last summer. It will truly be a beautiful day when U2 releases a new album.

Stevie Wonder

Last album: 2005

Isn’t it very superstitious that one of the greatest musicians of all time hasn’t released an album in eight years? Until that record is signed, sealed and delivered, audiences won’t be satisfied.
