James G. Ellis, the dean of USC's Marshall School Of Business, just reported that the student was Thu Yain “Roy” Kyaw, a sophomore from Singapore.

In a release sent to Neon Tommy, Ellis said: 

"Roy was a sophomore from Singapore, an outstanding Marshall student who made a positive impact among his friends, fellow students, and faculty.  He was an active participant in last spring’s LINC program, where he was a member of the Budapest trip."

Ellis also noted that Kyaw's older brother is graduating from Marshall this year.

However, the L.A. Coroner's Office would not confirm the name or age of the student, who they are still referring to as John Doe. 

L.A. Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera said that Roy was last seen Friday, Oct. 25. His roommates found him unconscious and not breathing at 9:30 p.m. in his bedroom two days later.

The Daily Trojan first tweeted the incident this morning after DPS released its list of incidents and crimes that occurred over the weekend.

Herrera says the investigation shows no foul play was involved and the cause of the death is still unknown.

USC student Axel Hellman says he walked by the building and saw multiple officers, a DPS vehicle and an L.A. Fire Department vehicle outside at about 9:20 p.m.

According to one resident of the complex, who chose to remain anonymous, the deceased student returned home Saturday night from a party at another location. The resident said his roommates called the police after they found the student the next day.

Kai Beba, a USC senior who lives in the building, said that officers came over to the apartment Sunday evening but did not talk to any residents to tell them what what was going on.

Kyaw studied at St. Andrew's Junior College in Singapore before coming to USC. He was also a 3rd Sergeant in the Singapore Armed Forces from 2010 to December 2012, according to his Facebook profile.

Ellis said Kyaw was an "outstanding student" who loved to travel.

"We hope to know more soon regarding the Kyaw family’s wishes for arrangements to celebrate Roy’s life.  Please join me in keeping the entire Kyaw family in our thoughts and prayers," said Ellis.
