U.S. Government May Shut Down In 8 Days

Key Democrats and Republicans said on Sunday that they expect to come together and prevent a U.S. government shutdown in eight days. 

It is unclear how they are going to proceed with a bitterly divided Congress over Republican's demands to defund Obamacare. 

The Republican-led House of Representatives last week defied a White House veto threat and passed a bill to keep the government running, but only if Obamacare is defunded.

Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, has said "legislative arsonists" in the Republican party are using their opposition to President Barack Obama's signature healthcare reform as an excuse to shut down the federal government, reports The Guardian

A government shutdown would disrupt federal services and hurt the U.S. economy. And if the shutdown takes place, there will be plenty of blame to go around. A Pew research poll finds that 39 percent of public would blame Republicans and 36 percent would blame Democrats if an agreement is not reached, with 17 percent blaming both sides equally.
