Three of the alleged terrorists who opened fire on an upscale mall in Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday are from the United States.

The death count from the attack is now at 68, but most of the 30 people who were held hostage have been released, according to CNN

Al-Shabaab, al Qaeda’s proxy in Somalia, said they were responsible. They escorted all the Muslims out of the mall before opening fire, according to CNN.

The animosity between Kenya and the terror group started in 2011, when Kenyan forces began attacking Al-Shabaab in Somalia. Since then, Al-Shabaab has thrown grenades at public places in Kenya.

An estimated 10 to 15 gunmen are behind the violence. Invaders threw grenades as well as opened fire.

The mall is a popular destination for both locals and expatriates, and four Americans were wounded in the attack.
