In the wake of the mass shooting at the Navy Yard in D.C. that claimed 12 innocent lives on Monday, three teams based in Washington sent their condolences to the victims, families, and everybody who has been affected by the unforeseen tragedy.

The Washington Nationals, whose  Nationals Park is only few blocks away from the crime scene, expressed their sorrow through a press release hours after the shooting.

“All of us here in the Nationals organization were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that occurred this morning…Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families," the release said.

The statement also touched upon the postponement of the Monday’s game against the Atlanta Braves due to the proximity of home game to the incident.

“The safety of our fans is our utmost priority,” said the release. “The Nationals' security personnel will continue to work closely with all levels of law enforcement to reinforce the already high level of security in place at Nationals Park.”

The Nationals game against the Braves was moved to Tuesday for a day-night doubleheader. According to a Nationals official, fans with tickets to Monday’s postponed game will be able use their initial ticket to for the rescheduled game at 1:05 p.m. ET. The fans who are unable to attend the makeup game can exchange for any remaining home game during the 2013 regular season or any Value Game tickets for the next season.

From the NBA, Washington Wizards sent their wishes to those who were affected via Twitter, moments after the shooting.

Mike Shanahan, the head coach of Washington Redskins, responded to the shooting as well at his weekly press conference on Monday.

“My thoughts are our thoughts are with the families of the victims at the Naval Yard,” said Shanahan. “I’m sure everybody feels the same way at this time.”

The NFL honored the shooting victims with a moment of silence before the Monday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.

At Tuesday's makeup match between the Nationals and the Braves, the Nationals team appeared in a special Navy hat for the moment of silence and the national anthem. As series of intensive investigations carry on to uncover the cause of the sorrow, the team seems determined to bring hopes and excitments back to the capital city that was tramautized by the tragedy.
