Taylor Swift Is Heading To The Big Screen
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer-songwriter has been cast in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry’s award-winning young adult novel, “The Giver.”
The 1993 book, whose movie rights have been available for more than 15 years, takes place in a dystopian society without illness or conflict. A young boy named Jonas, played by Australian actor Brenton Thwaites, is assigned the societal role of the “Receiver of Memories,” and is mentored by the Giver, played by Jeff Bridges, who is also producing the film.
Swift joins the recently confirmed cast that also includes Meryl Streep as the intimidating Chief Elder who assigns roles to the younger members of their community, and Katie Holmes and Alexander Skarsgard as Jonas’ parents.
Swift will play Rosemary, who is the last person to be mentored by the Giver before Jonas.
Her previous movie roles include the 2010 flick “Valentine’s Day” and last year’s animated film “The Lorax.” Swift has also had small television guest spots on “New Girl” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
The film, directed by Phil Noyce and written by Michael Mitnick, will begin filming Oct. 7 in Cape Town, South Africa. It is expected to hit theaters in August of next year.
