Government Shutdown: Obama Reassures Troops

After failing to pass a budget or continuing resolution, lamakers in Congress allowed the government to shutdown at midnight after Republicans refused to sign off on essential funding for the nation's new health care law, known as Obamacare.

A video to members of America's armed forces was taken off embargo at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. In the video, President Obama said that he would sign into law "legislation" that allows members of the armed focres to receive their pay.

The president also added, "Ongoing military operations, like our efforts in Afghanistan, will continue. If you're serving in harm's way, we're gonna make sure you have what you need to succeed in your missions."

He also addressed Department of Defense civilians.
