Obama May Meet New Iranian President

President Obama and Iran's newly elected president Hassan Rowhani could very well meet the following week at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, creating another step toward easing many years of diplomatic strain as well as sanctions that have crippled the Middle Eastern country, the Associated Press reports.

The two heads of state have already swapped letters with each other, and Rouhani has shown a desire to make Iran a more moderate nation such as tweeting wishes for the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah earlier this month, releasing political prisoners and has denounced chemical weapons attacks in Syria. "We must work together to end the unhealthy rivalries and interferences that fuel violence and drive us apart," Rouhani wrote, in an op-ed for the Washington Post yesterday.
