Obama, Kerry Skeptical About Russian Proposal For Syria
Syria accepted Tuesday the Russian proposal to hand over its chemical weapons to international control, but President Obama and other officials are skeptical over whether Syria will follow through with its promise.
In an interview Monday with NBC News' Savannah Guthrie, Obama discussed where he stood regarding the Russian proposal.
"You have to take it with a grain of salt," said Obama. "My preference consistently has been diplomatic resolution to this problem."
The proposal, contingent upon the U.S. terminating military action, represented a less invasive solution and was more of a diplomatic resolution, but Secretary John Kerry was also dubious.
"This cannot be a process of delay, this cannot be a process of avoidance, it has to be real, it has to be measurable, tangible," Kerry said Monday. "It is exceedingly difficult […] to fulfill those conditions."
