NFL Quick Hits: Recapping All 16 Games From Week 3

-Thursday-
Chiefs 26, Eagles 16
The Chiefs have a top-five defense in the NFL right now—their front seven, including Justin Houston, Tamba Hali and Dontari Poe, is absolutely deadly. Numbers say at least one of these players will get a one-on-one matchup on every play, which spells disaster for any opponent.
-Sunday-
Ravens 30, Texans 9
Getting scores out of both the defense and the special teams will put any team at a large advantage. There are still concerns as to who will be catching passes from Joe Flacco though.
Panthers 38, Giants 0
This sounds weird since the Giants are only two years removed from being Super Bowl champions, but Tom Coughlin could very well be on the hot seat. Two underachieving seasons in a row while missing the playoffs is not good, to say the least.
Bengals 34, Packers 30
Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson abused Packers rookie left tackle David Bakhtiari all day. Also, cornerback Leon Hall’s coverage on Randall Cobb throughout the game was outstanding. Game balls to each of those two.
Cowboys 31, Rams 7
Being blown out by the Cowboys is a clear sign that the Rams aren’t ready to take the next step. The absence of a running game is surely a major cause of their struggles.
Browns 31, Vikings 27
Physically speaking, Josh Gordon looks like he’s comparable to Julio Jones. The Browns would be stupid to trade away such a talent for the sake of rebuilding- he could be a top-five receiver in the entire league within a couple years.
Patriots 23, Buccaneers 3
Last time it was Raheem Morris. This time it’s Greg Schiano. What is it with Bucs’ head coaches losing the leadership of their teams? The scene in Tampa Bay is bleak, and Schiano’s firing at the end of this year (maybe even sooner) seems inevitable.
Saints 31, Cardinals 7
Titans 20, Chargers 17
I don’t think Jake Locker can keep making enough plays for the Titans to keep winning games. But the Tennessee defense is legit.
Lions 27, Redskins 20
The Lions had the most complete game offensively that they’ve had in a long time. And without Reggie Bush, too. But that would be much more impressive if the Redskins defense wasn’t terrible.
Dolphins 27, Falcons 23
Props to Ryan Tannehill, the forgotten quarterback among the famed 2012 draft class, who is getting better every week. But the injury to Cameron Wake could make Miami’s life difficult in a hurry.
Jets 27, Bills 20
It feels weird to say, but the Jets are kind of good. If Rex Ryan loses his job anytime soon, however, there will be serious questions about the direction of this franchise.
Seahawks 45, Jaguars 17
Eight and a half months removed from blowing out his ACL, Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons looked like his old, explosive self in limited action. The offensive line is a concern for Seattle though, as left tackle Russell Okung will be out for at least another eight weeks.
Colts 27, 49ers 7
The 49ers have lost the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball for two weeks in a row. They better hope they can get right or Frank Gore’s alleged tiff with Jim Harbaugh will be the least of their problems.
-Sunday Night-
Bears 40, Steelers 23
Marc Trestman’s offense continues to look like a perfect fit for the Bears’ personnel. Chicago’s offensive line play was stellar on Sunday night, too. The season-ending injury to Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton hurts, but they still look like the favorites in the NFC North.
-Monday-
Broncos 37, Raiders 21
Peyton Manning was Peyton Manning. But Ryan Clady’s replacement at left tackle Chris Clark did an admirable job for the most part against the borderline-elite Lamarr Houston of the Raiders. Clark’s play will be key in Denver’s Super Bowl aspirations.
