LGBT Discrimination Law Introduced In San Antonio
Starting in San Antonio this week, it will be illegal to discriminate against a person according to their gender identity or sexual orientation. The city council voted on Thursday to add those protections to its non-discrimination regulation, joining other Texas cities such as Dallas, Austin and Houston that have done the same.
"This ordinance fundamentally is about ensuring whether white or black, Christian or Jew, whether straight or gay, San Antonio belongs to you," said Mayor Julian Castro of the ruling that was deliberated by more than 2,000 citizens, both detractors and supporters, and was backed by many parts of the local government as well as businesses such as the San Antonio Spurs.
