House Lists Demands To Raise Debt Ceiling

The possibility of a government shut-down looms ever nearer, after House leaders expressed an intention to reject the spending plan expected to soon pass through the Senate.
Speaker John Boehner said he does not anticipate the Senate's bill to pass through the House unchanged, according to the Washington Post.
In a closed meeting, House leaders expressed their list of demands to agree with increasing the debt ceiling. A few of them include:
- One-year delay of President Obama's Affordable Care Act
- Authority to overhaul the tax code
- Construction of Keystone XL oil pipeline
- Blocking the Environmental Protection Agency's new regulations on greenhouse gases
- Increased offshore oil and gas production
If Congressional leaders do not reach an agreement to raise the borrowing limit by October 17, the government will default on its loans.
