"The season is for you guys. This is our goodbye and our appreciation for you guys," said one of the creators, Craig Thomas, during this year's Comic Con show panel.

This Emmy-winning CBS sitcom premiered in 2005, starting with Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) telling his two children about how he met their mother. After 8 seasons of laughter, drama and heart-warming moments, one of the favorite TV shows of all the time is finally coming to an end. 

According to Thomas and the other creator Carter Bays, the new season will be structured around Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin's (Cobie Smulders) wedding. There will be a lot of flashbacks and jumping around the timeline.

The inside jokes that the fans love, like Robin Sparkles, Slapsgiving, Marshmallow (Jason Segel) and Lilypad (Alyson Hannigan) and all the guest appearances have a great chance of coming back for the big finale. Some guest stars we know for sure are Sherri Shepherd and Wayne Brady.

“We’re throwing a wedding and everyone’s invited,” said Bays, “so if there’s someone you liked on the show there’s a good chance they’ll be coming back.” Fingers crossed for the return of Britney Spears!

Some of the favorite episodes that the fans love are Slapsgiving and NPH's "Suits" number. Fans will be happy to know that there will be one episode that happens in the span of one slap, according to Bays. 

And of course, Season 9 finally answers the question that has been frustrating fans for 8 seasons - Who is the mother?

We caught a glimpse of Cristin Milioti as the Mother in the finale of Season 8, but who is she? Guess we'll find out in the next 24 episodes. 

An interesting fact, to Trojans specifically perhaps, is that when Radnor and Milioti finally met for a reading, it was titled "USC Thesis Film" to keep Milioti's identity hidden.

"How I Met Your Mother" Season 9 premieres tonight on CBS at 8/7c. It's time for the fans and cast to say goodbye, but the writers and producers will make sure it is a satisfying, fulfilling wrap up to this 9 season journey. Check out the promo for the new season below:
