Suspected Islamic gunmen shot and killed 50 sleeping college students at Nigeria’s College of Agriculture early Sunday morning in one attack to create an Islamic state.

The group Boko Haram is attempting to overthrow Nigeria’s government and has conducted a number of attacks on schools.

In May, Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s president, declared a state of emergency in the northeast part of the country and ordered an attack against Boko Haram.

But in June, the insurgency struck back and invaded two schools in the area, one killing 13 students and teachers, and the other resulting in 42 deaths, most of them students.
