Earlier today, the House voted on a food stamps bill that would cut $40 billion from the program over the course of the next decade. Around 1 in every 7 Americans participate in this program annually.

The vote was 217-210, indicating a favor toward the Republicans.

The newly signed bill puts an end to government waivers that granted lifetime food stamps to adults without dependents and cuts into the benefits of millions of Americans in the program. In addition, it also encourages those adults between the ages of 18 and 50 to seek work training programs as a way of recuperating the previous benefits received.
