Hollywood favorite funny woman Amy Poehler turns 42 years old today — and there's plenty of reason for her to celebrate. From her wacky improv on Saturday Night Live to her Emmy-nominated role as Leslie Knoppe on Parks and Recreation, Poehler never ceases to make us laugh.

In honor of the comedian's birthday, here are five reasons why we're totally obsessed with Amy Poehler:

1. She's a role model and advocate for females around the world. Her Youtube channel, Amy Poehler's Smart Girls, features profiles of inspiring women such as Dr. Jane Aronson, the "Orphan Doctor." Smart Girls also has an "Ask Amy" portion where she shares her own personal advice to young women.

2. She can impersonate Hillary Clinton like no other. Poehler's famous Hillary Clinton skits on Saturday Night Live even got the thumbs up from Clinton herself, commenting "I simply adore Amy's impression of me."

3. She helped developed the Leslie Knope character on Parks and Recreation, turning it into one of the most entertaining, whimsical characters on television. "She's a funnier and nicer person than anyone has a right to be. She was our first choice of someone to develop a show around," Parks and Recreation co-creator Michael Shur said.

4. She makes up a dynamic duo with best friend and fellow former Saturday Night Live actress Tina Fey. The two hilarious women hosted the 70th Annual Golden Globes together and have been asked by NBC to host it again next year.

5. She's spontaneous. Harper Collins announced that Poehler is writing a 'non-linear' book. The book will be part illustration and party diary and released in 2014.
