23 More Dead In Iraq Violence Wave

Three bombs were detonated in Baghdad's public markets on Sept. 26. The attack killed 16, injured 41 and annihilated a swath of property. Seven victims were counted after explosions in northern and southern provinces. In other parts of the country. 33 people died in bombings the day before. (Reuters) 

These deaths compound a national trend. Iraqis saw a substantial up tic in violence beginning in July. In the week preceding the Sept. 26 attacks 250 people were killed, according to Al Jazeera.

The two months before that were also unusually bloody. The United Nations reported that 1,057 Iraqis died in coordinated violence in July, the most of any month since 2008.

When Secretary of State John Kerry visited the country in August, he was met with requests for increased support to combat the rise in violence by Hoshyar Zebari. (International Crisis Group)

Kerry has not issued an official response to the summer's surge of bombings.
