13 Female Rappers To Know

In the rap world, more and more female MCs are making it big. Here's some who have already made major accomplishments and some still on their way up but all have unique talent we are sure to see more of in the near future. 

Iggy Azalea 

Real name: Amethyst Kelly.

Azalea is an Australian rapper and model who moved to the U.S. at 16. She gained a following when several of her videos became hits on YouTube and then released her first mix tape “Ignorant Art” in 2011. She is currently working on her second album “The New Classic.” 

Azealia Banks

Banks is a rapper from Harlem, New York. She signed to XL Recordings at 17 before later signing to Interscope and Polydor Recordings. Her first single was “212” and she is currently working on her debut studio album, “Broke With Expensive Taste.” 

Angel Haze 

Real Name: Raykeea Wilson.

Haze is a rapper from Detriot, Michigan. At 16, after having an extrememly religious upbringing, her & her family moved to Brooklyn where Haze began exploring music. She released her “New York EP” in 2012. She is currently working on her debut album “Dirty Gold.” 

K. Flay

Real name: Kristine Flaherty.

Flay grew up in Wilmette, IL and attended Stanford University in California. Her sophomore year she began writing rap songs and performing. She released her first album “Suburban Rap Queen” in 2004, which earned her a lot of attention due to her Myspace profile. This year she has released another album “West Ghost” and an EP, “What If It Is.”

Kilo Kish

Real Name: Lakisha Kimberly Robinson.

Kish is a rapper from Orlando, Florida. She graduated Fashion Institute of Technology in 2012 for textile design. She made Complex’s 2012 Best Albums list for her “Homeschool” EP. This year she released “K+.”

Brooke Candy

Candy is an American rapper from Los Angeles. She starred in Grimes's “Genesis” video. She was also featured on Charli XCX’s song “Cloud Aura.” She has previously worked at a strip club and has been employed by Hustler, of which her father is the CFO. She is currently working on her debut album “Freaky Princess EP.” 

LoLa Monroe

Real Name: Fershgenet Melaku.

Monroe is an Ethiopian rapper who began writing songs at the age of 12. In 2009, she released her first mix tape, “Boss Bitch’s World.” Monroe is a member of Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang Records and had a baby boy with rapper, Los, in March 2013. 

Brianna Perry

Perry is an American rapper from Miami-Dade County, Florida. She was the youngest performer signed to Missy Elliott’s record label, The Goldmind Inc. She has previously released 6 mix tapes and is currently working on her debut album “Girl Talk.”

Honey Cocaine

Real Name: Sochitta Sal.

Honey Cocaine is a Cambodian-Canadian rapper. She was the first artist signed to Tyga’s label Last Kings. Her first mixtape “F*ck Yo Feelings” was recently released. 

3D Na’Tee

Real Name: Samantha Davon James.

Na'Tee is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. She was established as a battle rapper before releasing several mixtapes, getting attention on MTV, and then in 2011 released “Switch,” a single in which she shot and directed the video herself. 

Invincible

Real Name: Ilana Weaver.

Invincible lived in Israel from ages 1 to 7 and then moved to Detroit, Michigan. She learned English through listening to hip-hop albums and stopped speaking Hebrew at 10 years old. Her music reflects her beliefs in social justice and her music video “Ropes” was temporarily banned from mtvU because of its suicidal nature. 

Nyemiah Supreme

Supreme is a 22 year-old MC from Southside Jamaica, Queens. She began dancing at the age of 7 and went on to perform as a backup dancer for Chris Brown and Lil’ Mama. She has since released her mix tape “BAD.” 

Siya

Siya was born in California and raised in Brooklyn. She began rapping at the age of 7 and released her “Elevator Dreams” mix tape earlier this year.
