Police are searching for one white male and one black male. The white male reportedly was wearing khaki military-style clothing and a beret. The African-American shooter was wearing olive military-style clothing. Both are believed to be between 40 and 50-years-old and were last seen at about 8:35 a.m. EST.
The shooting took place around 8:20 a.m. Monday morning. By 10:30 a.m., one shooter was said to have been killed, according to D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier. She said that the suspects were seen to be carrying guns and dressed in military uniforms, although they are not believed to be members of armed services.
Multiple buildings and schools are under lockdown and security has been increased at Capitol Hill and the Pentagon.
At this point, the only thing confirmed by authorities has been the death of one suspected gunman and multiple other fatalities at the naval building where about 3,000 people work. The police chief stressed that police do not know for certain that there was more than one gunman.
