Yosemite, SF Water Supply Still Threatened By Rim Fire
The ten-day-old Rim Fire continues to cause havoc and problems throughout California on Tuesday despite officials making progress on containing the massive blaze.
The wildfire, burning to the west of Yosemite National Park, was 20 percent contained by Monday night, up from only 7 percent on Sunday. Over 180,000 acres have burned so far, including 21,000 acres inside Yosemite National Park.
Fire officials are hopeful that weather conditions will continue to improve but are still gravely concerned about a threatened grove of ancient giant sequoias and the Hetch Hetchy reservoir, where San Francisco receives much of its water and power.

The City and County of San Francisco has rushed to move water away from Hetch Hetchy and to reservoirs closer to the city. Officials are concerned that falling ash could taint the water supply.
The Hetch Hetchy reservoir supplies water to nearly 2.6 million people in the San Francisco Bay area. Hydroelectric power generated by the Hetch Hetchy reservoir has also been interrupted.
