Tonight is the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and our favorites are up for "Best Song of the Summer." In the category are Selena Gomez ("Come & Get It"), Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding ("I Need Your Love"), One Direction ("Best Song Ever"), Daft Punk ("Get Lucky"), Miley Cyrus ("We Can't Stop"), and Robin Thicke and Pharrell ("Blurred Lines").

The voting process is essentially a popularity contest. The One Direction fandom has pulled over 7.5 million votes, landing the boy band in the number one spot. Miley Cyrus is in second place, with just under four million votes. Next is Selena Gomez, at just over two million votes. Then there is a huge jump to Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, with 48,000 votes. In second to last and last are Daft Punk (37,000) and Robin Thicke (33,000).

One would think with the number of times "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky" are played on radio stations and named as summer anthems that they would be contenders in the category. Alas, the voting process proves that the number of fans a music artist has is all that truly matters. If you're likable, the public will adore you.

There's still time to vote for your pick. Click here to vote!

Tune in tonight at 9 P.M. on MTV for the final results.
