U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the U.S. chemical weapons assessment shows "high confidence" that the Syrian government did carry out a horrific and deadly attack against its own people.

Kerry says that at least 1,429 were killed, including 426 children.

The U.S. is pushing for intervention to stop the Syrian government from using chemical weapons.

The government of President Bashar al-Assad continues to deny that officials carried out the attack and blames rebel forces.
