On Monday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a statewide Amber Alert after the body of Christian Anderson was found in James Lee Dimaggio’s burned home near the U.S.-Mexican border. The Amber Alert is in effect as of Wednesday morning.

Also found in the home were a body of a dog and remains of a child who could not be identified due to the severity of the burns. It is unclear whether the burned child is one of Anderson’s missing children.

DiMaggio, 40, is suspected of killing Anderson and kidnapping her children in Boulevard, San Diego County. They were last seen with him at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

He is believed to be driving a blue, four-door Nissan Versa with California license plate 6WCU986. Investigators say he may be driving to Canada or Texas. They are chasing numerous tips but "realistically we don't know where they're going," said Lt. Glenn Giannantonio of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's homicide detail.

The CHP issued a statewide Amber Alert to Californians’ cell phones through the Wireless Emergency Alert program. All nationwide wireless carriers have agreed to send out the emergency notifications.

This was the first time the state has used a new national Amber Alert system administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Instead of a text messages, the alerts were transmitted on an exclusive frequency that can reach tens of thousands of people at the same time. People receive the alert even if their cell phone is silent or they are in a crowded place.

Giannantonio warned anyone who sees DiMaggio and the children that he may be dangerous and they should not approach him or attempt to detain him. Instead, Giannantonio advised people to call 911.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department homicide detail at (858) 974-2321 or (858) 565-5200, or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
